Since 2016 has become the infamous year full of WTF? I'm hoping, just as the rest of the world is, that 2017 is sure to be better!
So to start us off with the right attitude I wanted to gather some inspirational and powerful quotes that I refer back to every once in awhile. I know some find quotes to be a tad bit overrate and to a point I understand but what I get out of them is perspective.
Now if you saw how many inspirational quotes I have on my Pinterest board I might be a little embarrassed. But in all honesty some times when you read something it speaks to you on another level. As if that person knows what you are going through and is willing to lend you a piece of advise.
So on that note here are 7 quotes from bad ass women to helps us set the tone and get the ball rolling for 2017.
"Do not bring people in your life who weigh you down. And trust your instincts … good relationships feel good. They feel right. They don’t hurt. They’re not painful. That’s not just with somebody you want to marry, but it’s with the friends that you choose. It’s with the people you surround yourselves with." —Michelle Obama
She may be on her way out of the White House but her words leave an impact. I've been fortunate enough to have wonderful people that surround me both in family and friends and let me tell you it makes all the difference. You have no time for negative people in your life they will only hold you back and weigh you down, so get rid of them.
"I’m tough, I’m ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay." — Madonna
Girl if someone thinks you're a bitch for the above qualities listed or in my case because I refuse to let people walk all over me. Wear that shit with pride like you the Queen and that's your crown. Trust the bitchiness is justified and let their hate roll off. Being determinded does not make you a bitch.
"Instead of looking at the past, I put myself ahead twenty years and try to look at what I need to do now in order to get there then" –Diana Ross
I love this quote because it's the way all of us should think. We take small steps toward the bigger goal. Don't become so focused on the now, and the speed in which you get there that you forget about the larger picture. There is nothing you can take from the past except lessons learned. Take that knowledge and move forward.
"Figure out who are you separate from your family, and the man or woman you’re in a relationship with. Find who you are in this world and what you need to feel good alone. I think that’s the most important thing in life. Find a sense of self. With that, you can do anything else." –Angelina Jolie
I'm a true believer in finding a sense of self. You would be absolutely amazed what you learn when you are in pursuit of finding who you are apart from everything and everyone you know. There is so much power in knowing who you are and what makes you happy. If there is any piece of advice I would recommend to anyone it would be this.
"I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw something back." — Maya Angelou
As I've gotten older I've learned to appreciate and be grateful for the things I've experienced, got to do and or be apart of. I've also learned the importance of giving back to my community. It's true what they say about evoking change and being apart of something bigger, it starts right where you are standing.
“I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.” - Arianna Huffington
This quote speaks to me on two levels. One, we should never compare ourselves to others and what you or they have accomplished. We are all different and comparing yourself does nothing. Two, don't focus on the competition or what others seem to be doing that might be similar. The one thing that makes you different is that no one can be you. There is no use in focusing on what others are doing. The only thing that does is take away from what you are trying to do.
"As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That's how I've gotten to where I am." - Beyonce
You know I could not write this blog post and NOT include a quote from Queen B! Now there are TONS of quotes I refer to when I'm feeling all sorts of ways. But I like this one for 2017 because I'm personally all about goals, setting and achieving them. In the words of Beyonce, "I dream it. I work hard. I grind till I own it." That song lyric is basically the catchy version of the above quote. Setting goals are pertinent to success. They keep you focused, driven, and creative.
So set those goals for 2017 ladies and let these quotes offer you some guidance, advise, and words of wisdom. And of course continue to slay... all day!
Happy New Year!
